re: tradition and the individual talents
TatIT's debut album coniferous is finished and, like all of our other currently in print titles, is available to purchase here. tradition and the individual talents is a collaboration between r.mutt and s+m (last heard collaborating with monopöle) and involves the long-awaited intersection of singer-songwriterly duets, simpsons references, and pro hockey. points of reference: nancy and lee, histoire de melody nelson, the crabs, henry's dress, the thermals, tell balgeary balgury is dead e.p., and belle and sebastian (ca. '96-'97).
re: two new releases
monoculture is pleased to present new records by our two ersatz doctors, dr. johannes silentio and dr. meow meow. the former was the drummer in centipede and the latter played bass in monopöle. the former embodies "the passage from t. s. eliot's 'tradition and the individual talent' about great artists not being individuals who 'feel' more strongly than the common man and, thus, being able to translate their overwhelming emotions into art, so much as a great artist is one who engages with his/her medium and the history thereof in a way that effects a worthwhile exchange with one's forebears and, later, progeny" in a digital wash of digital sounds. the latter is an acoustic hip-hop concept double album which has drawn comparisons to such disparate artists as dr. octagon and the books. despite the fact that it was recorded on a four-track, dr. meow meow is far and away the most ambitious and clearest sounding monoculture release ever. the two records are available for purchase here.

watch out for TRADITION AND THE INDIVIDUAL TALENTS, monoculture's hot new band. i'm sure by now you've heard their smash hits "critic-theorists against the neo-con hegemony," "don't be saussure," and "zeit-villains." no word yet on an album or e.p., but they're working on it.

invoking the tradition of david byrne and his wonderful song "life during wartime," monoculture records is pleased to present r.mutt mp3's for you to download if you please. this ain't no press club press was kind enough to publish the lyrics online. if you're not in the mood to hear r.mutt's thoughts on politics, there is also a sneak peak at his upcoming remix record oeuvres in the dark on the page. it's a remix of the monopöle! smash hit single "last valediction (i promise)" that some love and others find overly emo and embarrassing. also, check out some demos and early mixes of songs from the upcoming r.mutt record pop songs for guitar, drums, and cégeste (nine at last count).

the first is the long-awaited "dancing in the dark" 7". the lineup is operation makeout and r.mutt on the A side with animal and mirah on the B. all tracks, of course, will be covers of springsteen's wonderful song "dancing in the dark." sonja "antlers" ahlers is doing the sleeve. limited edition of 150. look for it soon.
the other release is the premies/r.mutt cassette. the premies, fronted by none other than r.mutt, are the skinniest pop culture phenomenon ever. premature, trendsetting, faim, and obsessed with death, they'll rock yr world. the other side is r.mutt's pop songs for guitar, drums, and cegeste. little four-track songs for little four-track minds. killing you smoothly with nicoglycerol. re: monocompilation

re: r.mutt takes a sabbatical
r.mutt is hanging up the four track, putting away his good name, and placing his public self on hiatus. no one knows how long this will last. in the meantime, you can do one of two things: you can read some lengthy and self-indulgent (some would say pretentious) amble about why r.mutt is taking a sabbatical here, or you can listen to a new recording (as well as two others that he dug up from the horse with no name studio vaults) here.re: r.mutt virtual-cassette

re: centipede album finished
centipede's first full-length, 'nancy reagan flipbook', has been recorded. it will be mixed this week and the artwork should be ready by next monday. visit the centipede site for more information.
